Softball Recap: Derby Takes a Loss

If Derby was riding high fresh off their 26-10 takedown of Harding on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Red Raiders lost 14-1 to the Woodland Regional Hawks on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red Raiders of the 23-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Derby saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma DeSanty, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Derby has also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Woodland Regional, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 10-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Derby will venture away from home to take on Kennedy at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.88 runs per game on average), something the Red Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Woodland Regional, they will head out on the road to square off against Oxford at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
