Baseball Recap: Springfield Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Springfield can now relate to. They fell just short of the Jacksonville Crimsons by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Crimsons this season, with their most recent loss being a 8-0 defeat last Tuesday.

Brody Scheffler put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with nine stolen bases.

In other batting news, Alex Heyen led a balanced group of hitters, earning nine stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Jacob Jenkins, who earned nine stolen bases.

Springfield dropped their record down to 11-23 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 4.14 runs. As for Jacksonville, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 22-14.

Springfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Jacksonville, they will square off against Glenwood at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Crimsons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Titans have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
