Albuquerque Academy has gone 7-2 against Hope Christian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Chargers will head out to face off against the Huskies at 4:00 p.m. Albuquerque Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Albuquerque Academy proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Valley 7-5.
Melissa Purcella made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Purcella was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Brooklynn Dominguez was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Grace Knouse also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Hope Christian hadn't done well against Bernalillo recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Huskies came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 9-4.
Iliana Cordova spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ella McFadden was a standout: she scored a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Quanz, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.
Hope Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Hope Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Albuquerque Academy, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Albuquerque Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Hope Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .426. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Albuquerque Academy took their win against Hope Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 24-7 score. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
