Basketball Recap: Sidwell Friends takes loss despite strong efforts from Jayda Dixon and Zania Socka

Basketball Recap: Sidwell Friends Quakers vs. Varsity Opponent

It was a good run, but the Sidwell Friends Quakers unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Sunday. They fell to Varsity Opponent 54-48. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Sidwell Friends has scored all season.

Sidwell Friends' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Zania Socka, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds, and Jayda Dixon who scored 18 points along with three steals. It was the first time this season that Dixon scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Kendall Dudley, who scored six points along with three steals.

Sidwell Friends' loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Varsity Opponent, their victory bumped their record up to 109-387.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sidwell Friends will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Panthers at 5:45 p.m. on January 30th. One thing working in Potomac School's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups. As for Varsity Opponent, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the at 4:00 p.m. on January 29th.
