Baseball Recap: Claiborne Takes a Loss

Claiborne has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.4 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Cumberland Gap Panthers by a score of 10-9. That makes it the first time this season the Bulldogs have let down their home crowd.

Garrett Keiter was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, Hunter Greer was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in triples (two). Another player making a difference was Chace Robinette, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Having lost for the first time this season, Claiborne fell to 4-1. As for Cumberland Gap, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

While Claiborne had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
