Baseball Recap: Eight Straight Home Wins for Yuma Catholic

Yuma Catholic came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the ALA - West Foothills Guardians 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Shamrocks, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Hiram Silva spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Erik Topete was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Jose Alatorre was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one triple.

Yuma Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as ALA - West Foothills only posted an OBP of .200.

Yuma Catholic pushed their record up to 16-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for ALA - West Foothills, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-6.

Coming up, Yuma Catholic will square off against Gilbert Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Shamrocks 1.4, the Knights 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for ALA - West Foothills, they will be playing at home against Parker at 2:45 p.m. on Friday.
