Basketball Recap: Lamesa Takes a Loss

If Lamesa was riding high fresh off their 57-26 takedown of Compass Academy last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lamesa Tornadoes were beaten by the Coahoma Bulldogs 64-33 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Tornadoes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 943rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 244th).

Coahoma's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bree Lewis, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. That's the most points Lewis has posted since back in December of 2024. Madi Renteria was another key player, putting up 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

Lamesa has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-20 record this season. As for Coahoma, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-4.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Crane the next time they take the court. Lamesa will host Crane at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, while Coahoma will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th.
