Basketball Recap: Ansonia Drops Highest Score of Season Against Wilby

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ansonia). They strolled past the Wilby Wildcats with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 60-42. The win continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won seven in a row.

Wilby lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Anabel Mercedes, who went 5-for-11 on her way to 12 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Raine Upchurch, who posted 17 points.

Ansonia's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Wilby, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ansonia will host Waterbury Career Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wilby, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Woodland Regional at 6:00 p.m.
