Volleyball Recap: Fairfield Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Peyton Smith and Mikee Lawson

After flying high against Archbishop Alter on Tuesday, Fairfield came back down to earth. The Indians lost 3-0 to the Sycamore Aviators on Thursday. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Aviators apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Fairfield was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-21.

Fairfield's loss came despite strong showings from Mikee Lawson and Peyton Smith. Lawson had ten digs, while Smith had 20 digs and two aces. Smith has been hot, having posted 13 or more digs the last five times she's played.

Leading Sycamore to victory were Lainey Tilton and Lucy Bell. Tilton had 22 digs and three assists, while Bell had four digs and two aces. That's the most digs Tilton has posted over her last nine contests.

Fairfield's defeat dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Sycamore, their record is now 12-9.

Looking ahead, Fairfield will take on Oak Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sycamore, they have already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Badin on the 13th.
