Softball Recap: Evergreen Valley Takes a Loss

After flying high against Mt. Pleasant last Friday, Evergreen Valley came back down to earth. The Cougars took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Independence 76ers on Tuesday. The Cougars have struggled against the 76ers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Mackenzie Brongiel was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Brongiel wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jayda Galvan, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

Evergreen Valley's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Independence, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-3.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Evergreen Valley will square off against rival Hill at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Independence is set to face off against their familiar foe San Jose at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
