Softball Recap: Evergreen Valley Cougars vs. Independence 76ers

After flying high against Mt. Pleasant last Friday, Evergreen Valley came back down to earth. The Cougars took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Independence 76ers on Tuesday. The Cougars have struggled against the 76ers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Mackenzie Brongiel was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Brongiel wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jayda Galvan, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
