Baseball Recap: Crowley County Has No Trouble Against Rye

Crowley County came out on top against Rye on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run first inning. The Chargers put the hurt on the Thunderbolts with a sharp 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Landon Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has become a key player for Crowley County: the team is 5-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Smith was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tritt Buhr, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Krew Karney was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Crowley County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rye only posted an OBP of .250.

Crowley County has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Rye, their loss dropped their record down to 5-15.

Coming up, Crowley County will host Fowler at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Chargers will need to watch out since the Grizzlies have now posted at least ten runs in their last seven matches. As for Rye, they are taking a road trip to take on Swink at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The Thunderbolts' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season.
