Basketball Recap: Liberty Takes a Loss

Liberty was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 65-47 to the Landrum Cardinals. The match was a 29-29 toss-up at halftime, but the Red Devils couldn't quite close it out.

When it comes to explaining why Liberty lost, don't look at Logan Smith. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 12 on his way to 15 points in addition to six boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sidney Montgomery, who posted nine points.

Even though they lost, Liberty smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Landrum was led to victory by Benett Edwards and Noah Dodd. Edwards went 7 of 13 on his way to 20 points and three steals, while Dodd went 8 of 12 on his way to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aj Lindsey, who had seven points in addition to eight boards and five assists.

Liberty's record now sits at 7-7. As for Landrum, their record is now 9-4.

Liberty wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 71-51 loss against Greer Middle College on the 4th. As for Landrum, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Landrum Cardinals challenge the Blacksburg Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Landrum's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.
