Basketball Recap: Hilmar Comes Up Short

Hilmar lost against Ripon Christian back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Hilmar Yellowjackets received a blow as they fell 58-42 to the Ripon Christian Knights. While losing is never fun, the Yellowjackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 964th, while the Knights are ranked 326th).

When it comes to explaining why Hilmar lost, don't look at Xavier Silveira. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 15 en route to 17 points and six boards. Silveira has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Solorio, who posted 12 points.

Even though they lost, Hilmar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Ripon Christian was led to victory by Amos Cady and Mason Tameling. Cady put up 19 points, while Tameling earned 16 points. Chase Bunnell was another key player, putting up nine points.

Hilmar's loss dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Ripon Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Hilmar wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 67-46 defeat against Escalon on the 31st. Ripon Christian has also already played their next contest, a 63-42 win against Hughson on the 31st.
