Preview: Pollok Central Bulldogs vs. Marshall Mavericks
The Pollok Central Bulldogs will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Marshall Mavericks at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pollok Central has six straight victories, Marshall has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though Pollok Central has not done well against Diboll recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Pollok Central enjoyed a cozy 52-34 win over Diboll. Given Pollok Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 366th, while Diboll is ranked 893rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wyatt Graham and Jake Matthews were among the main playmakers for Pollok Central as the former scored 16 points and the latter dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Matthews hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. Another player making a difference was Darrius Sherman, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Marshall, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 65-50 loss to Nacogdoches on Thursday.
Pollok Central is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Marshall, they bumped their record down to 5-9 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.
