Baseball Game Preview: Cumberland Dukes vs. Randolph-Henry Statesmen

Cumberland is 0-10 against Randolph-Henry since April of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Dukes will venture away from home to take on the Statesmen at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Cumberland was handed a 27-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Prince Edward County, sneaking past 3-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Dukes as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Brett Dalton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ayden Brodie, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, Randolph-Henry made easy work of Nottoway on Tuesday and carried off an 8-2 win. Considering the Statesmen have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Cumberland's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-9. As for Randolph-Henry, their record is now 8-5.

Cumberland might still be hurting after the 19-3 defeat they got from Randolph-Henry when the teams last played back in April. Can the Dukes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
