Basketball Recap: La Jolla Sets Scoring Season-High Against High Tech SD

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask La Jolla). They put the hurt on the High Tech SD Storm with a sharp 82-56 win on Friday. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 315th, while the Storm are ranked 1023rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brody Sessa continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8 of 10 en route to 19 points and six rebounds. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Carson Diehl, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 10 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

La Jolla was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January.

High Tech SD lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sebastian Blackaller, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. Blackaller continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hiro Nakamura, who posted 18 points.

La Jolla pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points per game. As for High Tech SD, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

After both having extra time off, La Jolla and Tri-City Christian will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for High Tech SD, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on San Diego at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
