Basketball Game Preview: Gainesville Hurricanes vs. Newberry Panthers

The Gainesville Hurricanes are taking a road trip to challenge the Newberry Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Gainesville sitting on six straight wins and Newberry on 19.

Gainesville is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Buchholz: they outscored them in every quarter. Gainesville came out on top against Buchholz by a score of 54-41 on Friday.

Meanwhile, Newberry hadn't done well against Bradford recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Newberry blew past Bradford 84-49. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Newberry pushed their record up to 19-0 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.8 points per game. As for Gainesville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Gainesville skirted past Newberry 54-51 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gainesville since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
