Western Branch faced Hickory in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Bruins fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 3-2. The Bruins' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Western Branch's loss dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Hickory, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-6 record this season.
