Baseball Recap: Highland Drops Season-High Score on Knight

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Highland). They put the hurt on the Knight Hawks with a sharp 19-4 win on Friday. With that victory, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 7.3 runs per game.

Colton Booterbaugh made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Highland got a massive performance out of Nick Gonzales, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Gonzales is becoming a predictor of Highland's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Hudson Harding, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Highland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Highland has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Knight and nudges their season record down to 3-7.

Looking ahead, Highland will venture away from home to challenge Paradise Honors at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Knight, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Palmdale at 3:15 p.m. on April 2.
