Volleyball Recap: Advance Hornets vs. Gideon Bulldogs

After flying high against Woodland on Friday, Advance came back down to earth. The Hornets fell 3-1 to the Gideon Bulldogs on Monday. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Advance started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21.

Olivia Kennedy paced Advance's offense, picking up 12 kills. Kennedy got some help from Mallory Mayberry and her 16 assists. Emma Eilers controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Jalynn Ford was nothing short of spectacular for Gideon: she had 18 digs and four assists. Ford has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more digs the last three times she's played. Layla Watkins also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Advance has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for Gideon, they pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Advance wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-2 defeat against St. Vincent on the 24th. As for Gideon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Cooter on the 23rd.
