Football Game Preview: Plains Cowboys vs. Sudan Hornets

Plains hasn't had much luck against Sudan recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cowboys will square off against the Hornets at 7:00 p.m.

Plains blew Crosbyton out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Crosbyton got their revenge. The Cowboys fell just short of the Chiefs by a score of 29-27.

Despite the defeat, Plains had strong showings from Braylon Ward, who threw for 257 yards and a pair of TDs, and Jeremiah Gonzales, who picked up 54 receiving yards and one score.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.1 yards per carry. While two picked up at least four total tackles, Angel Garcia stood above the rest. He made four total tackles. Plains' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 3.8.

Meanwhile, after only 13 points in their last game, Sudan made sure to put some points up on the board against Vega on Friday. The Hornets breezed past the Longhorns to the tune of 35-6. The match marked the Hornets' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Sudan's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Plains, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Plains was taken down by Sudan 40-0 in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. Can the Cowboys avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
