Basketball Recap: Millers Creek Christian Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Millers Creek Christian had to start their season on the road on Thursday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 57-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Statesville Christian. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Millers Creek Christian of the 56-24 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.

Millers Creek Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah McClain, who shot 67% from the field on his way to 20 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Julian Houpe, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards.

Statesville Christian's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-1.

Millers Creek Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 53-18 win against Community Baptist on the 14th. As for Statesville Christian, they will take on Lee Park Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
