Mitchell is 1-9 against Owen since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mountaineers will head out to square off against the Warhorses at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mitchell made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Mountain Heritage, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Mountaineers were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Cougars on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Mountaineers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Grace Willis was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).
In other batting news, Emma Cook was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kylee Miller, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Mitchell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Owen made sure to put some runs up on the board against Draughn on Friday. The Warhorses put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 11-1 win.
Like Mitchell, Owen also got a great game from a two-way player: Sophie Neal. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Neal was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Mia Roland was incredible, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. Easton Whitson was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Owen has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Mitchell, their record is now 5-8.
Both Mitchell and Owen just can't seem to miss. The Mountaineers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Owen struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mitchell suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Owen in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Mountaineers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
