Softball Recap: Montverde Academy Eagles vs. Mount Dora Hurricanes
Montverde Academy had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Mount Dora Hurricanes a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. Montverde Academy might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won 16 matches by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past LaBreah Sands, who gave up just one hit and racked up 14 Ks to keep Mount Dora off the board. Sands has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive pitching appearances.
On the hitting side, Luna Taboas was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Elena Friedman, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Montverde Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season. As for Mount Dora, their loss dropped their record down to 12-12.
Montverde Academy will head out on the road to square off against Trinity Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Trinity Prep comes in on six and Montverde Academy on five. Mount Dora does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
