Softball Recap: Freeport Has No Trouble Against Central

Freeport barely beat Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over the Jaguars on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now won four in a row.

Kaylee Carroll made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Annsleigh Withey was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Kayla Stephens was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-6.

Freeport kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory got Freeport back to even at 9-9. As for Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season.

Freeport will head out to square off against Destin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Central, they will host Paxton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.27 runs per game on average), something the Jaguars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
