Basketball Recap: Brackenridge Piles Up the Points Against Edison

Brackenridge had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.3 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Edison Golden Bears 75-39. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 612th, while the Golden Bears are ranked 1267th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brackenridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashlynn Cortinas, who went 7 for 13 en route to 22 points in addition to eight boards and eight steals. Cortinas' evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Galvan, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine assists.

Brackenridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 12 consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Edison still got an impressive performance from Allison Ramirez, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 14 points.

Brackenridge is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.6 points per game. As for Edison, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-21.

Brackenridge has already played their next contest, a 53-41 win against Highlands on the 17th. As for Edison, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-34 loss against Sam Houston on the 17th.
