Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Starts Season with Win Against Evansville Christian

Mt. Vernon took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Evansville Christian Eagles. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Nathan Howard made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

In other batting news, Jack Campbell was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Levi Embrey was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Mt. Vernon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Evansville Christian only posted an OBP of .167.

Looking ahead, Mt. Vernon is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will challenge Evansville Central at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Evansville Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Springs Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
