Baseball Recap: Pendleton County Comes Up Short

Pendleton County had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 6-8 to make it four. They fell just short of the Tygarts Valley Bulldogs by a score of 1-0. The Wildcat were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Tygarts Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 30, 2024.

For Tygarts Valley's part, Jaxon Drennen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over 7.1 innings pitched. Drennen also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Tygarts Valley is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise. Drennen was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off four doubles and one run while going 4-for-5. Those four doubles gave him a new career-high.

Pendleton County has already played their next match, a 17-7 loss against Spring Mills on the 24th. As for Tygarts Valley, they will host Notre Dame at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Fighting Irish have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
