Softball Recap: Westerville North Comes Up Short

Westerville North extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 8-14 in the process. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Licking Heights Hornets. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Westerville North saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Polovick, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

As for Licking Heights, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games.

On Licking Heights' side, Natalie Mahoney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Alissa West was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Von Bargen, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run.

Westerville North and Licking Heights are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Warriors will face off against Logan at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Licking Heights, they will square off against Worthington Kilbourne at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolves have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
