The Maranatha Baptist Academy Warriors were the 73-70 winner over the Aurora Christian Academy Arrows when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. Maranatha Baptist Academy was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 75-74 to Aurora Christian Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
When it comes to explaining why Maranatha Baptist Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sebastian Rush. Despite the final result, he scored 36 points. Rush scored a full 48.6% of Maranatha Baptist Academy's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Clarence Brown, who scored 18 points.
Dawson Lewis was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with 9 rebounds and 8 assists for Aurora Christian Academy. The contest was Lewis' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Sawyer Jones was another key contributor, scoring 25 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Maranatha Baptist Academy and nudges their season record down to 4-2. As for Aurora Christian Academy, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Varsity Opponent the next time they take the court. Maranatha Baptist Academy will host Varsity Opponent at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Aurora Christian Academy will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
