Basketball Recap: Jazmine Monges' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Damonte Ranch over Reno

Damonte Ranch lost against Reno on January 6th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Damonte Ranch Mustangs received a blow as they fell 66-50 to the Reno Huskies. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Huskies are ranked fifth).

Damonte Ranch's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jazmine Monges, who posted 15 points along with five assists and five steals. The dominant performance gave Monges a new career-high in points. Mya Ghisletta was another key player, putting up 17 points and six boards.

Reno's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Violet Gordon, who went 9 of 11 en route to 21 points and eight rebounds. Gordon's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brookesly Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards.

Damonte Ranch has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which is still a better percentage than their 4-17 record this season. As for Reno, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 18-4.

Damonte Ranch is taking a road trip to square off against McQueen at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Damonte Ranch is facing McQueen at the right time seeing as McQueen is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Reno, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bishop Manogue at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Reno is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.7 points per game this season.
