Volleyball Recap: Mater Lakes Academy Beats American Heritage for Their Fourth Straight Win

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mater Lakes Academy walked away with it. Everything went their way against the American Heritage Patriots on Thursday as they made off with a 3-0 win. The victory was nothing new for the Bears as they're now sitting on four straight.

Mater Lakes Academy's got stronger as the match went on, holding American Heritage to fewer and fewer points set over set. The final score came out to 25-17, 25-13, 25-7.

Leading Mater Lakes Academy to victory were Abbie Vazquez and Jezebel Sarmiento. Vazquez had six digs and three aces, while Sarmiento had four digs and three aces. The dominant performance also gave Sarmiento a new career-high in assists (five). Olivia Staville also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

They weren't the only good servers: Mater Lakes Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least nine aces in four consecutive matches.

Carly Tabony and Sofia Lisamore certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Tabony had eight digs and two aces, while Lisamore had eight assists and four digs.

Mater Lakes Academy's win bumped their record up to 23-4. As for American Heritage, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 14-11.

Mater Lakes Academy has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Key West on the 22nd. As for American Heritage, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Dreyfoos School of the Arts on the 22nd.
