The Los Fresnos Falcons will be defending their home-field for the first timethey go up against the Rowe Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rowe took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Los Fresnos, who comes in off a win.
Los Fresnos is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against McAllen. Los Fresnos breezed by McAllen on the road to the tune of 43-10 on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Falcons as it put an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Los Fresnos relied on the efforts of Robert Pineda, who rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries, and Diego Torres, who gained 113 total yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Rowe couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of Harlingen South by a score of 16-14 on Thursday.
Despite their loss, Rowe saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Draven Niaves, who picked up 91 receiving yards and a touchdown, was perhaps the best of all. Niaves got the majority of those yards when he pulled down a pass and and took off for a gain of64 yards. Rowe also got a significant boost from Samuel Liguez, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.
Rowe wouldn't let Harlingen South keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Rowe can thank Dante Rodriguez and Nomar Aguire for forcing both of them. Aguire's also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing a fumble and making ten total tackles. Another thorn in Harlingen South's side was John Salazar, who made 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
