Walnut barely beat New Site the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats blew past the Royals 7-1 on Tuesday. Considering the Wildcats have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Brittan Dawkins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Walnut got a big performance out of Maddie Wilburn, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Allie Jackson was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Walnut always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Site only posted an OBP of .179.
Walnut's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 8-11. As for New Site, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.
Walnut will have a chance to go back-to-back against New Site: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
