Baseball Game Preview: Belton Pirates vs. Raytown Bluejays

The Belton Pirates will face off against the Raytown Bluejays at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Raytown took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Belton, who comes in off a win.

Belton made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Fort Osage, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Pirates' pitchers stepped up to hand the Indians a 7-0 shutout on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Raytown faced off against Grain Valley on Monday. The Bluejays might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 11-1 to the Eagles, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The loss continues a trend for the Bluejays in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost three in a row.

Raytown saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elijah Dunn, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Dunn is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Austin Terryberry also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Belton's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Raytown, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Belton came out on top in a nail-biter against Raytown in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bluejays turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
