Basketball Recap: Danville Comes Up Short

It was a Battle of the Birds when Danville took on East Lawrence on Tuesday. The Danville Hawks fell to the East Lawrence Eagles 51-45. The Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 71-44.

When it comes to explaining why Danville lost, don't look at Ty Bailey. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine boards. Bailey has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Donald Walker, who posted eight points and three steals.

Danville has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for East Lawrence, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 9-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Danville will take on West Morgan at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for East Lawrence, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Athens Bible at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. East Lawrence is facing Athens Bible at the right time seeing as Athens Bible is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
