Jefferson is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Spring Valley, who was ranked third at the time (Jefferson was ranked fifth). The Cougars came out on top against the Timberwolves by a score of 9-4 on Friday.
Liam Sager looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits.

At the plate, Jett Gross was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Liam Healey was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, Morgantown suffered their biggest loss since May 30, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against Urbana, falling 14-6.
Carson Velickoff was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Jefferson's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Morgantown, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season.
Morgantown's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Jefferson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Morgantown, though, as they've been averaging only 3.3 strikeouts. Will Jefferson keep running through batters, or will the Mohigans buck the trend?
