Capital won the last time they faced Taos and things went their way on Monday too. Capital blew past Taos 18-3. Considering the Jaguars have won six games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Cardenas was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since March 1st. Jadyn Padilla was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Capital always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Taos only posted an OBP of .286.
Capital has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Taos' loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Coming up, Capital will host Los Alamos at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Taos, they will head out to challenge St. Michael's at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
