Basketball Recap: Sylmar Drops Highest Score of Season Against Panorama

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sylmar). They blew past the Panorama Pythons 84-36 on Friday. With the Spartans ahead 49-23 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Leading Sylmar to victory were Isabella Gonzalez and Yaneli Zuniga-Hernandez. Gonzalez went 18 for 36 on her way to 48 points and five steals, while Zuniga-Hernandez went 13 of 24 to rack up 33 points along with eight assists and six boards. The contest was Gonzalez's third in a row with at least 15 points.

Sylmar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 offensive boards per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 13.2.

Panorama's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was VALERY QUEZADA, who posted 19 points. That was a full 52.8% of Panorama's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. YESSENIA QUEZADA was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Sylmar picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 4-9. As for Panorama, they dropped their record down to 7-12 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sylmar will take on Van Nuys at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Panorama, they will host Reseda at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
