Softball Recap: Mandeville Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

Mandeville won the last time they faced Hammond and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Skippers were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Tornadoes. Considering the Skippers have won seven games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Bailor Wells spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Lindsay Berniard was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Marchese, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Mandeville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three strikeouts batters in three consecutive matchups.

Mandeville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Hammond, they dropped their record down to 2-21 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Mandeville will challenge rival Covington at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Hammond is set to square off against their familiar foe Ponchatoula at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
