Basketball Game Preview: Chambers/Wheeler Central Renegades vs. Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack

Chambers/Wheeler Central and Elgin/Pope John are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The Chambers/Wheeler Central Renegades will square off against the Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Chambers/Wheeler Central will be strutting in after a victory while Elgin/Pope John will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Chambers/Wheeler Central turned things around against Newman Grove/St. Edward on Thursday. They walked away with a 37-24 win over the Panthers.

Ella Moses and Paige Wolinski were among the main playmakers for Chambers/Wheeler Central as the former posted 17 points and the latter scored 12 points. Those 12 points gave Wolinski a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Elgin/Pope John came up short against Humphrey-Lindsay on Thursday and fell 53-44.

Despite the loss, Elgin/Pope John saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Braelyn Martinsen had 19 points. Madelyn Kurpgeweit was another key player, putting up 11 points.

The victory got Chambers/Wheeler Central back to even at 9-9. As for Elgin/Pope John, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-4.

Chambers/Wheeler Central took a serious blow against Elgin/Pope John in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 76-33. Can Chambers/Wheeler Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
