Basketball Recap: Cross Trojans vs. Scott's Branch Eagles
If Cross was feeling good fresh off their 39-12 takedown of Charleston Math & Science last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cross Trojans were dealt a 50-21 loss at the hands of the Scott's Branch Eagles on Friday. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.
Cross lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Lauren Middleton, who posted 13 points. That was a full 61.9% of Cross' points, marking the fifth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.
Scott's Branch found their leader in sophomore Trayiona Maxfield, who went 12-for-18 to rack up 27 points along with five boards and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Maxfield has scored all season. Siara Lundy was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to ten steals and six assists.
Cross dropped their record down to 3-11 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Scott's Branch, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-9.
Cross wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 100-20 defeat against Military Magnet Academy on the 11th. Scott's Branch has also already played their next contest (against Lowcountry Leadership), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
