Softball Recap: Waterloo Comes Up Short

Waterloo extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 8-8. They lost 11-4 to the Springfield Tigers. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

Waterloo saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jolean Hampton, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

As for Springfield, their win bumped their record up to 12-9. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won ten contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Springfield's side, Sophia Greathouse spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gina Romeo, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Giuliana Battaglini, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.

As of now, neither Waterloo nor Springfield have any future games scheduled.
