Basketball Recap: Augusta Christian Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Augusta Christian can now relate to. They were beaten by the First Baptist School Hurricanes 75-47 on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 99th in Georgia, while the Hurricanes are ranked 11th in South Carolina).

Augusta Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Kennedy Cooper and Taylor Booker. Cooper to rack up 16 points, while Booker posted four points and 11 boards. The dominant performance also gave Cooper a new career-high in shooting accuracy (86%). Savannah Witt was another key player, putting up seven points.

Even though they lost, Augusta Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Augusta Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 16-15. As for First Baptist School, the win (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 28-2.

Augusta Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for First Baptist School, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-52 victory against Heathwood Hall Episcopal on the 19th.
