Football Game Preview: Pikeville Panthers vs. Southwestern Warriors

The Pikeville Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Southwestern Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Pikeville's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Powell County 56-0. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky football rankings (they are ranked 36th, while the Pirates are ranked 171st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, the third road contest was the charm for Southwestern, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They put the hurt on Mercer County with a sharp 53-30 win last Friday. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Warriors just coasted through the last quarter.

Pikeville's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 39.5 points this season. As for Southwestern, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
