Basketball Recap: Wagner Comes Up Short

Wagner extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping them down to 4-11. They took a 41-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Veterans Memorial Patriots. The contest marked the Thunderbirds' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Wagner lost, don't look at Daimen Ramirez. Despite the final result, he posted 13 points. Dayveon Allen was another key player, putting up four points and five rebounds.

As for Veterans Memorial, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-4. The final result isn't all that surprising considering their considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Wagner is ranked 412th).

Veterans Memorial got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cj Shanklin out in front who earned 12 points. That's the most points Shanklin has posted since back in November. Another player making a difference was Aj Dennis, who scored 13 points and four steals.

Wagner wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 69-68 defeat against Crowley on the 29th. As for Veterans Memorial, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-56 loss against Antonian Prep on the 29th.
