Volleyball Recap: Cushman Comes Up Short at Home Against Mourning

Cushman unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They lost 3-0 to the Mourning Sharks on Wednesday.

While Cushman was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Mourning's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 25-17, 25-22.

Olivia Corzo paced Cushman's offense, picking up nine kills. Corzo got some help from Kelly Lopez and her ten assists. Jessica Lacoban controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Julia Shevit had an outrageously good game for Mourning as she had eight aces and four digs. Those eight aces gave Shevit a new career-high. Sadie Dunham was another key player, getting six digs and one block.

Looking ahead, Cushman will be playing at home against Cristo Rey at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Mourning, they will venture away from home to take on iMater Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
