Jackson-Reed is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of District of Columbia's top teams: Cardozo, who was ranked 21st at the time (Jackson-Reed was ranked fourth). Jackson-Reed blew past Cardozo, posting a 63-6 win. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 20 points or more this season.
Meanwhile, after a string of nine wins, Coolidge's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They received a blow as they fell 65-49 to Maret. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Colts, who until this game were averaging 24.67 points allowed.
Jackson-Reed will have to keep a close watch on Josslyn Derricott and Kahmya Dixon, a pair of players who had a big impact on Coolidge's prior game. Derricott dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Dixon posted 16 points and seven boards. Dixon is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Jaylyn Derricott was another key player, putting up four points and six boards.
Even though they lost, Coolidge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.
Jackson-Reed is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 37.1 points. As for Coolidge, their loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 19-2.
Jackson-Reed couldn't quite finish off Coolidge in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 and fell 43-40. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Derricott, who dropped a triple-double on 20 points, 11 rebounds, and ten blocks.
