Recap: Swansboro Pirates vs. West Carteret Patriots
The Swansboro Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 38-37 to West Carteret. Swansboro was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as West Carteret apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Swansboro's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kendall Hackworth, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and four blocks, and Brooke Brady who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hackworth scored 15 or more points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Carteret to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ella Holmes, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Holmes is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Skyler Setzer, who scored 11 points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Swansboro has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for West Carteret, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Swansboro will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Dixon at 6:15 p.m. Dixon is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for West Carteret, they will head out on the road to square off against Richlands at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Richlands is ranked 243rd, while West Carteret is ranked 259th).
