Basketball Recap: Merino Triumphs

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Merino walked away with it. They came out on top against the Sedgwick County Cougars by a score of 40-29 on Saturday. The 40-point effort marked the Rams' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Veronica Baray went supernova for Merino, going 6-for-10 on her way to 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Baray a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jay Lynch, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine boards.

Merino smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Merino's record is now 26-1. As for Sedgwick County, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 21-5 record.

As of now, neither Merino nor Sedgwick County have any future games scheduled.
